I bought this because of all the positive reviews I read on it. It works great, but it wasn't as close a shave as I was hoping. Maybe when my skin gets used to the shaver it will be better.

I've spent half my life shaving with Norelco razors, believing I was getting a good shave. But that was only until a few months ago, when my trusty Norelco broke and I found the parts for it can't be obtained any longer. I started searching out a new one, but I didn't care for the comments I was reading about the current Norelco (Phillips) and Braun models and I landed on this Panasonic. What appealed to me was that fact that it is simply cleaned with a little soap and water.
I wanted to give it some time before giving any feedback and now that a few months have passed, I think I can give some qualified comments.
The razor feels good in my hands. It's comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver around my face and neck. It's a slight bit noisier than I imagined it would be, but still not bad. It gives a close shave, even on my neck and around the Adam's apple, and is a closer shave than any Norelco rotary I ever had -- and possibly even better than a blade. I'm able to shave in 3 - 4 minutes if I shave every day or every-other day. If I go beyond two days, the razor doesn't get bogged down, but it does take 7 to 10 minutes to get the same great results.
I wear a fu-manchu moustache and a soul patch. I was concerned that a shaver with such a large head couldn't shave around it as well as a 3-head rotary could, but I was pleasantly surprised. It gets right up close and I'm even able to use it to shave the space on either side of soul patch out to the corner of my mouth... and that's with the shaver head, not the retractable trimmer. The retractable trimmer has very fine teeth and does a great job on the side-burns.
The battery on this shaver requires charging every 7 to 10 days. I expected more, but this is certainly good enough. After each shave, I remove the head cover and blow out the clippings. The "clean shaver" light seems to come on about once between each charge cycle and it's very simple to do. Follow the instructions in the booklet and the razor is clean and refreshed in just a moment or two.
I love my new razor and wish I made the change from shaving with a rotary to foil shaving sooner. I get a clean and close shave from this shaver -- consistently across my cheeks, chin, and neck. And my girlfriend loves the smoothness of my cheeks on her thighs, too!

I finally broke down and got a new razor. My old Remington was literally duct-taped together. I ordered this razor and it just came today. I opened the box, turned it on, and shaved right there and then. Wow. I apparently forgot how shaving was supposed to feel. A great improvement over what I had going and I can't wait to shave every day now.
To other reviews, yes, it seems a little loud, but so what?

This is the first electric shaver I've ever used that truly does shave as close as a blade.
I have used several in the past with mixed results. This is far superior to anything I've ever used previously as it shaves close and it is fast! I can obtain a completely satisfactorily dry shave in about two minutes. Working up a decent lather takes almost that long and always required two or three additional latherings and shaves to achieve a totally smooth job with any blade I've ever tried.
This is a great product; I highly recommend it.

For many years I have been a Phillips Norelco electric razor user. The Panasonic ES8243A has changed all that. It cuts facial hair like a five bladed razor, leaving a close, Panasonic ES8243A Arc IV Nano Men's Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaver, Bluesmooth, finished shave. Something I could never seemt to get with the Norelco.
Kudos to Panasonic for creating a great product.
